Hi, I’m Ashley.* On Oct. 29, 2013, my father woke after suffering from a debilitating stroke with no memory of his previous life.
We have a complicated relationship, he and I. You might think that every father-daughter relationship is complicated. That’s what happens with the people with whom you share the same genes.
Only that’s the thing. I don’t share any DNA with my dad. The only thing we have are memories.

*For those extra curious, by day I’m a food editor. By night I write YA fiction. My short story, “The Seventh Anniversary,” was published in Stone Crowns, a literary magazine for young adults and those who enjoy YA literature (sadly shuttered at the end of 2014). In 2016 I had the pleasure of participating in the Pitch Wars writing contest and showcase. You can read an essay I wrote on the topic of this blog for Jarrett Lerner’s blog here. I’m currently querying for an agent.
